StatsCan takes peek at family structures in Vaudreul-Dorion

The 2011 figures released by Statistics Canada last month offer a peek at the changing face of the private household in Vaudreuil-Dorion. There was a 21 per cent increase in the number of private households, from 10,260 in 2006 to 12,925 in 2011. (A private household is a dwelling where one or more people live on a permanent basis.)

The makeup of the family structures in those private households also experienced a shift.

The total number of single-parent families headed by a woman increased 27 per cent, from 835 in 2006 to 1,145 in 2011. The number of single-parent families headed by a man increased a marginal three per cent, from 310 in 2006 to 320 in 2011.

And the total number of common law couples with children grew from 1,180 in 2006 to 1,455 in 2011 – a 19 per cent increase.
