Coyote spotted in Vieux Moulin sector

The town of Notre Dame de l’Île Perrot is warning citizens not to feed wild animals after a coyote was spotted near a home in the Vieux Moulin sector.

A statement on the town’s website said a resident of Émile Nelligan St. reported seeing the coyote twice in the last few weeks.

The statement said coyotes are rarely dangerous to humans, since they don’t tend approach people and they feed on smaller animals like mice and groundhogs. The town says people should make sure they don’t leave any food outside, and that garbage bins are well sealed.

Vancouver’s Stanley Park Ecology Society recommends keeping cats and small dogs inside, as they can be prey to coyotes. If you come into contact with one, the society recommends making lots of noise, keeping eye contact, and to pick up small pets and children.
