Vaudreuil-Dorion to embrace Facebook, Twitter

The city of Vaudreuil-Dorion will finally get a Facebook page and a Twitter feed.

City spokesperson France Lavoie confirmed the page will be up and running by the end of the month, and will focus on communicating important information with residents and answering their questions.

She said the city had resisted having a Facebook page until now, because it didn’t have the budget to hire more staff in its communications department.

“We wanted to make sure that if we did it, we would be able to update it often,” Lavoie said.

The city has hired Rachelle Tremblay on a permanent basis, who will be updating the Facebook page as one of her main duties.

Lavoie said aside from municipal information, the page will be updated regularly with pictures from events happening in the city.

She said she hopes the new social media presence will address complaints made by some residents about finding it difficult to find information from the city.

Since Vaudreuil-Dorion is an officially French city, it will have to be in French only. See the town of St-Lazare’s Facebook page to get an idea. The town just changed its FB policy to adhere to Bill 101 because of complaints.

  2. Full time to play on Facebook…eesh, I think our tax dollars can be put to better use than that. I hope the employee has other tasks then FB.
