Friends of a family of four are accepting donations for clothes and other essential items after a fire ravaged their home on Boul. de l’Île in Pincourt at the corner of Roberval St.  on Thursday.

Family friend Jennifer Roberton said the family is lucky to have all escaped unscathed. The fire broke out just after 12:30 p.m. in the garage, and because of high winds, it spread quickly to the structure of the home.

Roberton said the father and the family’s younger daughter were at home at the time, and didn’t notice that the house was on fire. A neighbour rang the doorbell to let them know, and they escaped safely, along with two dogs.

The family is now living with relatives nearby.

Shortly after the incident, Roberton sent out an appeal for donations on Facebook and said she was overwhelmed by the generosity of the community.

“It has really been amazing,” she said.

While the family has already received many donations of clothes for the two girls, aged five, Roberton said what the family needs most is a bunk bed so that the girls can have more space in the small room where they are currently staying.

The Pincourt and Île Perrot fire departments both responded to the emergency, and it took 30 firefighters to bring the blaze under control.

Anyone who wishes to make a donation to the family is asked to drop it off at Jennifer Roberton’s home at 110 Place Forest in Pincourt.
