High winds on Thursday forced Pincourt resident Nicole Côté to abandon her house after a large portion of its roof blew off about 10 a.m.

“I heard a lot of noise, and then I heard the roof come right off with the wind,” Côté said.

She said the pieces of the roof lay in front of the house for several hours before firefighters came to haul them away.

Firefighters told Côté she would have to leave her home overnight until the roof is repaired. She said she plans to get the roof repaired on Friday.

Winds caused power outages throughout the region and had caused problems on roads and highways.

In Vaudreuil-Dorion, a truck turned over on Highway 40, about 10: 50 a.m., said Sûreté Du Québec Sgt. Ingrid Asselin.

Several branches were blown off trees in the region, particularly on St. Charles Ave. in Vaudreuil-Dorion. In Rivière Beaudette, a lamppost fell onto some power lines on Rte. 325. The road was closed between Highway 20 and Rte. 338.
