Letter: Faith in humanity re-affirmed. Thank you!

I still have faith in mankind.

Last Saturday my wife was walking alone to Tim Hortons to meet my son and his family for coffee and Timbits with the Grandkids when she slipped on some ice and fractured her right arm near the shoulder.

In severe pain she struggled to continue to go to Tims to get help from my son (she didn’t have a cell phone with her). She passed out from the pain on Bourget Street in Vaudreuil-Dorion and fell to the sidewalk well short of Tims. Immediately, a man and a woman in a passing car stopped and rushed over to her, people came out of nearby homes with blankets to keep her warm and someone called (911).

Another person drove to Tims to fetch my son while the others comforted her until the ambulance arrived to take her to Valleyfield hospital where, after the normal “Quebec wait” of 4 hours to see a doctor she was X-rayed, treated and released. She has to go back to see an orthopedic surgeon in a week but is safely home and recuperating as we speak. A HUGE THANK YOU TO THOSE KIND, RESPONSIBLE AND CARING PEOPLE IN VAUDREUIL-DORION (AND IN PARTICULAR THE ONES LIVING ON BOURGET STREET NEAR WHERE SHE COLLAPSED) WHO WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY TO HELP HER….. I WISH I KNEW HOW TO CONTACT EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU TO THANK YOU PERSONALLY. THERE ARE STILL GOOD PEOPLE IN THE WORLD DESPITE WHAT WE SEE ON THE NEWS AND IN THE PAPERS. (ALSO A BIG SHOUT OUT TO MY SON BLAIR WHO WENT TO THE HOSPITAL WITH HIS MUM AND STAYED WITH HER AS I WAS UNABLE TO GET THERE UNTIL MUCH LATER.) TO ALL OF YOU…THANK YOU…MERCI….THANK YOU!!

Cheers,

John Elliott
